GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION.

What must I do to be saved?

1 - The first step is, HEARING THE WORD OF GOD OR THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." (Romans 1:16) "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17)

2 - The next step is, BELIEF THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD, based upon the testimony of God's word. "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." (Hebrews 11:6) "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins." (John 8:24) "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)

3 - The next step is, REPENTANCE which is a change of mind involving a change of life. "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent: Because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." (Acts 17:30,31) "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." (II Peter 3:9)

4 - The next step is, CONFESSION OF FAITH IN CHRIST AS LORD. "that you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved: For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation." (Romans 10:9,10)

5 - The next step is, BAPTISM INTO CHRIST. "Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized in Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?" (Romans 6:3) "For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:27) "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." (Mark 16:16) "There is also an antitype which now saves us, namely baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." (I Peter 3:21)

6 - Then, to be saved eternally in heaven, one must LIVE FAITHFULLY THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. "Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him: But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul" (Hebrews 10:38,39) "Pursue peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord." (Hebrews 12:14) "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." (I Corinthians 15:58).

All Bible believing people recognize the need for salvation. All others need to recognize it. Man has sinned against God, and unless those sins are forgiven he cannot dwell eternally in heaven prepared for the redeemed. Hence, the steps that man must take need to be set forth to every accountable being on earth. The purpose of this is to set forth those steps, in the words of the Scriptures, to as many souls as possible. In so doing (1) those into whose hands this falls will have the word of God on the plan of salvation rather than the theories of men; (2) they will have a chance to know what the Lord requires of them; and (3) we, in some measure at least, will be discharging our God-given duty of sowing the seed which is the word of God. (Luke 8:11)

Emphasis On Baptism.

Churches of Christ have a reputation for placing much stress on the need for Baptism. However, we do not emphasize baptism as a "church ordinance," but as a command of Christ. The New Testament teaches baptism as an act which is essential to salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16). We do not practice infant baptism because New Testament baptism is only for sinners who turn to the Lord in belief and penitence. An infant has no sin to repent of, and cannot qualify as a believer. The only form of baptism we practice in churches of Christ is immersion. The Greek word from which the word baptize comes means "to dip, to immerse, to submerge, to plunge." And the scriptures always point to baptism as a burial (Acts 8:35-39; Romans 6:3,4; Colossians 2:12). Baptism is extremely important because the New Testament sets forth the following purposes for it:

  • It is to enter the kingdom (John 3:5).
  • It is to contact Christ's blood (Romans 6:3,4).
  • It is to get into Christ (Galatians 3:27).
  • It is for salvation (Mark 16:16; 1st Peter 3:21).
  • It is for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).
  • It is to wash away sins (Acts 22:16).
  • It is to get into the church (1st Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:23).

Since Christ died for the sins of the whole world and the invitation to share in His saving grace is open to everyone (Acts 10:34,35; Revelation 22:17)., we do not believe that anyone is predestined for salvation or condemnation. Some will choose to come to Christ in faith and obedience and will be saved. Others will reject His plea and be condemned (Mark 16:16). These will not be lost because they were marked for condemnation, but because that is the path they chose.

Wherever you are at this moment, we hope you will decide to accept the salvation offered by Christ and that you will offer yourself in obedient faith and become a member of this church.

Interesting Quotes.

''Only fix even the smallest amount you purpose to give of your income, and give this regularly; and as God is
pleased to increase your light and grace, and is pleased to prosper you more, so give more. If you neglect in
habitual giving, a regular giving, a giving principle based upon Scriptural grounds, and leave it only to feeling and
impulse, or particular arousing circumstances, you will certainly be a loser''
George Mueller

"If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely
that point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however
boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be
steady on all the battlefield besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point."
- Martin Luther

"If the doctrine of Christian union is true, then division and sectarianism are a great and prodigious evil, and
therefore ought to be abolished. Who then will lay the axe to the root of this corrupt tree to help cut it down?"
-D.S. Warner

"There is no Christian Gospel if history simply unwinds into a meaningless puddle, if the cosmos simply escapes
into a cataclysmic black hole, or if the universe finally dies of exhausted energy.
Without belief in a biblical eschatology, there is no Christian hope.
Without a sense of perfect moral judgment in the end, the human heart is homeless."
- R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

"A man who loves you the most is the man who tells you the most truth about yourself."
- Robert Murray M'Cheyne

The Christian Barber.

There was a barber that thought that he should share his faith with his customers more than he had
been doing lately. So the next morning when the sun came up and the barber got up out of bed he said,
"Today I am going to witness to the first man that walks through my door."

Soon after he opened his shop the first man came in and said, "I want a shave!" The barber said,
"Sure, just sit in the seat and I'll be with you in a moment." The barber went in the back and prayed a
quick desperate prayer saying, "God, the first customer came in and I'm going to witness to him.
So give me the wisdom to know just the right thing to say to him. Amen."

Then quickly the barber came out with his razor knife in one hand and a Bible in the other while saying
"Good morning sir. I have a question for you... Are you ready to die?"
